Hyderabad: Controversial spiritual leader and founder of Hindu Vahini, Swami Paripoornananda joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday, in the presence of Amit Shah.
Shah expressed confidence that the addition will boost his party's prospects in the Telangana Assembly election.
"His joining the BJP will infuse new energy into the party and boost its election prospects in Telangana," Shah told reporters. Paripoornananda said he would work as a 'sevak' of the BJP with zero expectations work towards spreading the party’s ideology in south India.
Soon after his joining the party, Dalit activists shared the news and criticised the spiritual leader along with the BJP’s religious politics. On the other hand, comments like ‘Adityanath of AP’ started to rotate in social media portraying him as the chief ministerial candidate of Telangana or Andhra Pradesh states.
Swami was recently expelled by the by the Telangana State Police amid tensions surrounding his rift with Film Critic Mahesh Kathi. Hyderabad High Court has later suspended the externment orders issued against him, while Mahesh Kathi’s petition is still pending disposal in the same court.
